October 2009 FHS Homecoming with Alumni

Farmerville High School Homecoming 2009 was a wet day but it didn't keep the Farmers from victory!!! There was steady rain all day starting the morning off with a big bang of high winds and tornadoes that ripped through Antioch, Downsville and Rocky Branch. Shortly after the rain lightened up and the coronation began.

Here is a closeup of one of the Alumni Tee's we had made up specifically for this event:

The other one has "Once a Farmer, Always a Farmer" on the back similar to this big float banner. I can't believe I forgot to take photos of the backs of the tee's. Woops! Blame it on the rain!

Anyway, here are some pics from the homecoming coronation.

And our cool Alumni "Blast from the Past" Banner that Roger Ouchley had made especially for Homecoming.

After the coronation, the next big event was the parade. And again, a light steady mist of rain didn't stop the homecoming beauties and all the school floats. The Alumni "Once a Farmer, Always a Farmer" float had a mixture of classes including a member of one of the FHS 50's class - and I can't remember what class this lady said she was in, but she was the only one of her friends who was brave enough to ride. The FHS football players jumped on at the last minute which really made this a rawking float.

After the parade, it was "Tailgate" time. Well, since no one wanted to eat BBQ and fried catfish out in the rain no matter how awesome it was, the school board offered the alumni the conference room. Yeah, air conditioning and a roof over our heads! No photos of the tailgate because we were so busy serving food (and eating), but here's a photo of what I call "the couple of the day" , Tracey Kennedy (who ended up having to repair his mom's roof that had blown off that morning), and Lisa Fowler aka "The Librarian".

If anyone has photos taken at the game, please send them in so I can post them here.

I am hearing buzzes about other FHS reunions in the works. So far the class of 1975 is planning theirs for the summer 2010, and the class of 1980 is planning one for the Spring of 2010. How exciting!

It's Almost Tailgate Time!!!

Hey everyone!
The tailgate is almost here!

The info has been sent to the gazette. Please pass this info on to any alumni you know. Also, if you know any FHS teachers - past and present - they are invited to attend, as our guests! The more the merrier.

-The Alumni has been invited to attend the Homecoming Coronation at the high
school gymnasium at 11:00am. There will be a designated area for alumni
seating. Wouldn't it be great to have a big turnout!!!

-All Alumni are welcome to ride the Alumni float in the Homecoming Parade.
Please be at the float at the high school parking lot no later than 1:00 for lineup.
Please wear your alumni tee-shirt, or an orange tee-shirt. The parade will
start at 2:00pm. Can you say WOOHOOOO!!!!

-At 3:00pm the Alumni will be tailgating at the football stadium. All alumni
are welcome to participate. There is a $10 fee to cover food and other
expenses for the tailgate. Bring your tailgate chairs, extra drinks!

SIDE DISHES

We have a few people that volunteered to make side dishes. We could use more donations! Chips, chips, desserts, cookies, etc...

Again - tell all your alumni friends. We'd love to show our support by having a wonderful turnout. Hope to see you there. And - we have heard the question "Is this for the more recent alumni also" and the answer is "ABSOLUTELY!!" It's for ANY AND ALL FHS Alumni. Can't wait to see everyone!

Details on the FHS Alumni Tailgate!!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it.(smile)

Well, this IS the information that should be coming out in the Gazette soon. PLEASE tell your classmates about this. Here's they info:

All FHS Alumni are invited to participate in the tailgate, parade and pep rally (yes, I said Pep Rally - still waiting on more info on that).

Members of the Farmerville High School Alumni recently met at the D'Arbonne Diner to finalize plans for the October 9 Tailgate for the FHS Homecoming Game. To cover the costs of mini-footballs (you know - the ones with the Alumni logo on it that we'll throw out during halftime... and you know you'll want one for a souvenier!), food and other misc. expenses associated with the tailgate, we've set the registration to $10 per person. Send checks made out to FHS to P.O. Box 41, Farmerville, LA 71241 - and please send those in asap! (like, before September 26).

We also have some really cool shirts designed by April Auger (A Print Shop). THere are two different designs that will go on the back. Stop by the store to see, or call Carol Jung at 318-450-9042 to order one. The shirts are only $12 (Yes - just TWELVE DOLLARS) and even better - a small portion of the shirt sales will go to the newly formed Alumni Association. How cool is that??? Deadline for shirt orders is September 25! (this is to ensure deliver before the tailgate!)

So far one of the local businesses has donated TWO 20'x20' tents for our event. We still need sponsors and people to volunteer to bring food, drinks, ice, etc..Plans for homecoming also include an Alumni Parade Float. Tailgating will begin soon after the parade at the stadium. Please bring your own chair!!! For more information, call Lyn or Dottie Kenley at 318-368-8255, or visit the website www.fhs1981.blogspot.com.

Check back for more updates as they occur. And don't forget to SPREAD THE WORD!!!

FHS1981 Reunion photos and TAILGATE INFO!

This post is to let everyone that attended the FHS Class of 81 reunion last month (gosh, has it already been a month??) that we have an 8x10 group photo for each one of you!! (Surprise!!) We need you to pick them up on Saturday, September 5 at the D'Arbonne Diner in Farmerville. We'll be there by 6pm. If you can't stay for dinner, please come by or send someone for you. Someone will have to sign for the photos. That is so we can keep track of who did NOT pick up their photo.

AND, since we'll all be there in one place, we will be discussing the Homecoming Tailgate! Homecoming will be Friday, October 9. If you are interested in participating and would like to volunteer to help in some way (even if it's bringing a bag of chips) then come to this meeting. So far we have several FHS Alumni Classes participating:
1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985.

Yes, all Alumni classes are invited to this meeting.

This is going to be an awesome tailgate gathering!! Dare we say "historic" for Farmerville? We already have donations and provisions from local businesses!! We'll see in just a few weeks!

Can't wait to see everyone again!

That date again is Saturday, September 5 at the D'Arbonne Diner. It's the restaurant behind the D'Arbonne Motel on the Lake (and yes, it still has a sign with the old name on it). There is a huge screened in porch in the back that will hold a large crowd and I hear that the food is excellent and affordable.

Any questions? E-mail farmervillehigh1981@gmail.com or call Carol Jung at 450-9042.

More video! Reunion speakers...

Just got finished editing and uploading some video clips of the speakers at our reunion. Each and every one of these speakers was AWESOME!! You might want to watch directly from youtube if the quality isn't good. Just double click and it will take you there.

It was still light outside, but it was getting dim inside. Some of the video is hard to see - but you can still hear the speakers.

P.S. Uhumm.... SOMEBODY called me a 'teacher's pet' on this video! Yes, I have it on record. I know who you are!!!

Enjoy!!

Where Everybody Enjoyed Everybody

The Reunion where "everybody enjoyed everybody".

I sure hope blogger doesn't crash from photo overload!

We had TONS of help to decorate. Deanna Long Hansen had the prison inmates make the window banners, the wonderful "Find Your Way Back" airbrushed sheet which was the focal of the room, and the huge sign at the entrance to the Lodge. Thank you, Deanna. Tell the boys they are so very talented and we appreciate their giftings!

We had a surprise helper, well, several actually, but Tracey Kennedy dropped in to say hello and ended up doing all the "honey-dos" for the rest of the afternoon. He got a ladder and put up the big backdrop and finally, after much persistance, agreed to attend the reunion.

We had two special guest teachers, Bobbye and Robert (Coach) Earle, and one other teacher who came later in the evening, Nancy Moon Hearne.

Rodney Rivers gave a wonderful toast, Bill Nevela talked about 1981 headlines and tied things in with "what were you doing then?", the Earles spoke, then Chris reflected on our journey to the reunion and introduced a 17 minute DVD slideshow, that everyone in the reunion received a copy of. Mark Babb shared about surviving a near fatal car accident, that coincidentally Glynda Aulds made the 911 call for. Where you guys aware that our class being the first First-Grade class to be integrated - which makes the class if 1981 the FIRST class to complete 12 years together after the intergration in 1969. See, I think we were meant to be trend-setters.

Our dinner was catered by LBK's Resturant in Farmerville and cakes were provided by the Corner Coffee Shop in West Monroe. We had Ed Young and his friend work the check-in table for us (we told you that we would have two burley men acting as bouncers, remember?) We were fortunate that the DJ, Shannon Futch was available for our reunion, and everyone commented on how great the music was. One of the classmates spouse sent us a message this week saying she hasn't ever seen anything like that before, where everybody enjoyed everybody". What a weekend.

Here are some long-awaited photos!
