and last but not least - another scan from THE PLOW. Note on the Plow Cuties, that the first two are supposed to be Ricky McCrary and Shelia Fletcher (Not Ricky Fletcher). :)

Some more "news" in print

I just love vintage things, especially photos - but even better, vintage photos of people I know. Shawna sent me some scans from clippings of The Plow and Gazette as well as some photos. Since we had our mugs in the Gazette this week, I thought it appropropraite to look back at some of those old yellowed pages. (Be sure to check the slide photos... I added some new ones). Oh and PLEASE leave some comments. Click the little "comments" button and post away.

Thanks for the blast, Shawna!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it...

The FHS1981 Twenty-Eight Year Reunion has made the Farmerville Gazette!
(double click photo to enlarge)

You have about 12 days left to get your registration sent in for the reunion. That will allow the planning committee about 3 weeks to prepare. We need to get a final account of who is attending so we can make seating and food arrangements, and a few other things that are top secret right now! Don't be late! If you have any questions, you can e-mail us at farmervillehigh1981@gmail.com.

Don't miss this party!

In the year 1973-1974

(Psstt... make sure you turn up the volume on your speaker - I added a stereo with some reunion music!)

In the year 1973 - 1974:

- Richard Nixon resigns as President of the United States and Gerald Ford is sworn in as President.
- Hank Aaron breaks Ruth's home-run record.
- The national speed limit of 55mph is enacted (say what???)
- The first U.S. self-adhesive postage stamp is introduced (really?)
- Happy Days, Good Times and That's My Mama debut on U.S. TV
- The "String" Bikini is in fashion. (oh, my!)
- Cost of a gallon of regular gas: $0.53
- Cost of a first-class stamp: $0.10
- Top Movies include: Paper Moon, The Way We Were, American Graffiti, The Exorcist, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Sting
- Top Hits included: You're So Vain, Superstition, Me and Mrs. Jones, Crocodile Rock, Superfly and Your Momma Don't Dance

and last but not least, the Class of 1981 was in 4th Grade!
Here's some photos from the yearbook. You will need to click on each photo to see the entire thing - it's bigger than will fit on the blog.

Enjoy!

Find Your Way Back!

By now, all but a few missing classmates have received the newsletter with all the reunion information. Here's the info!

Reunion date: Saturday, July 25, 2009
Times to Remember: 5:45-6:15pm (Check In); 6:40pm Group Photos and 7:00 Dinner.(Just be sure you get there in time for the group photos!!!!!!)
Where: Tall Oaks Lodge, 169 Upsey Downsey Road
Dress is Casual and comfortable.
Cost is $50/person or $80/couple.

The theme for this reunion is "Find Your Way Back" and held at the Tall Oaks Lodge, off the Spillway Road. The Tall Oaks Lodge is a beautiful, rustic setting overlooking Lake D'Arbonne and the perfect setting for you and your friends to reminisce as ou enjoy your dinner of home-style food catered by LBK's Restaurant. And just when you think it can't get any better, you will enjoy top hits from your high school days all night long courtesy of our reunion DJ. Yes, dinner AND dancing.

Note:
The newsletter was mailed out with directions to the reunion. The directions were taken from one of the online maps website, but recently we tried to follow the directions to verify the map - and guess what? We couldn't find one of the roads listed. So....oops!!! So how is everyone going to find the reunion? Don't worry - we'll have signs and balloons at each turn.

But FYI - here is how we have been driving to the lodge.

DIRECTIONS
Turn down the Spillway Road (like you are going to the Spillway). After you pass the old Massingale's store (which is now a house), look for Wildwood Road on the right. This road connects at a sharp angle, so you have to turn sharp. Just a stone's throw down the road, you will see Upsy Downsy Road. It's a "hilly" dirt road. Another stone's throw and you will see the Lodge on the left near the water. If you are reading this - tell your buddy, okay?

And I just wanted to share a little personal reunion story. It turns out the one of the owners of the Lodge is the mother of one of my old friends who used to live in Monroe. Mitzi just happened to be in town Easter weekend, so she met us at the lodge to show us around. I haven't seen her since 1987! It's funny how one "reunion" led to another.

Check back soon for more news. Don't forget - you have about 3 weeks let to get your registration sent in. And make sure you tell your buddy to get theirs in! If you have any photos from high school - please send in the scans. We'd love to use them on a photo DVD.

Lodging anyone?

I've only had one or two people ask me about lodging for the reunion. Most of you are local, and the others will probably be staying with family - BUT, I wanted to let you know that there are some new cabins on the lake not far from where we will have the reunion. They are called Henry's Cabins. Contact Henry and Shalane Rogillio at (318)368-2878. It would be nice to not have to drive far after the reunion.

Another choice would be the D'arbonne State Park. They have some nice units there. Website: http://www.stateparks.com/lake_darbonne.html

One more site to link to is VRBO.com (vacation rentals by owner). Search for Farmerville. They have several things available.

And I have another photo to share! This was a rather small 20-year reunion (or was this 25-year??), that I think they forgot to actually invite the whole class to. Oh well, at least someone tried! It's the thought that counts, right?

Don't you just LOVE that sign? You will be seeing that sign again. John was kind enough to pass it on for good use.

June 1 and the countdown is...

It's June 1 and the countdown is now 1 month, 3 weeks and 3 days until the BIG EVENT!

We've been keeping the momentum going and finding more classmates by having small get-togethers with classmates in Farmerville. It's always fun because someone new always pops up!!!

Last month we ate with Tim Alford, and this month Tim and John Crow joined us. (have to add - restaurant pics are never that great... hard to get good pics of people dining)

Allyson came with her hubby Charlie. We also got to dine with them last month, too. Doesn't Charlie look stylish in my Candies Designer reading glasses?

My daughter made BFF with Collette....

and Janet and I chatted about decorations.

but...... after we ate, we had a surprise visit from our Chief of Police - Bim aka Earnest Coulbertson.

My daughter loved meeting Bim and quite enthusiastically said, "Mr. Bim - can you show me your gun!". Well, too bad - he left it in the car.

Oh - and almost forgot - you have about 3 weeks left to get your registration in so we can start preparing things! They've been coming in almost daily. Can't wait to see everyone all at once. Giddy up and mail yours in!

Be Back Soon with some updates!!
